Catering Glossary

duty of declaration

Food labeling provides consumers with detailled information about a product. It is regulated by legislation. Labeling on packaged foods must include the following information:

  • name of the product (e.g. cream cheese)
  • list of ingredients (including additives and allergens)
  • best before date or use by date
  • quantity
  • manufacturers details (name and address)
  • batch number

In addition to this information, certain foods must also display product specific information (e.g. eggs, mineral water, milk). Genetically engineered foods must be labeled as such.
