Mediterranean cuisine

The food culture of the Mediterranean region is recognized as particularly healthy and can reduce the risk of nutrition-related complaints such as overweight and cardiovascular disease. 

Central elements:

  • pasta
  • potatoes
  • rice, bread
  • liberal amounts of fruit and vegetables
  • liberal amounts of fish
  • minimal quantities of meat and milk products
  • vegetable, unsaturated fats (e.g. olive oil) rather than animal, saturated fats.
